Chapter Two

“Look, are you sure Scarlet can pull this off as well as you could?”

“Of course she can. I wouldn’t have a clue about what I was doing with this one. You don’t need to tell me how important this is for Dream Makers. It’s my business.”

“What am I – the hired help?” he replied angrily.

“You would be, but I don’t pay you anything.” She used the same tone on him that he had used with her. “Look, Terry. Who helped us when I started this business? If it weren’t for Scarlet I wouldn’t have landed the mayor’s daughter’s manga party. It could have been so much more with weddings too. But – ”

“There’s no need to rub it in; I know that’s my fault. But who lent you the capital to start it up?”

“Terry, you know how much I appreciate you loaning me the money. Please understand I am needed here to run Dream Makers. Scarlet is the better person for this job. If I get another opportunity like this I will be better organised staff wise to go. I have to be at the mayor’s party – you know that.”

Slamming the phone down, Terry sank back in his chair, staring at the photograph of Scarlet he had brought with him. Beautiful, loving, funny Scarlet, the woman who should have been his wife by now, and the only woman he would ever love.

Damn it! Why couldn’t Scarlet come home and manage Dream Makers while Cressida went? He did think her plan would be effective and although people who didn’t know the twins couldn’t tell them apart, he could. Well, he could always go to London and see her if he could ever pluck up the courage to do so. No. Bad idea. She would only slam the door in his face, which would leave him in the same position as he was now.

As if things couldn’t get any worse for him today someone knocked on his temporary office door. “Come in.”

“Bonjour, Terry,” a man with a French accent called out to him.

“Anthony, can I help you with something?”

Terry looked at the casino owner. His face was white. A small vein in his head visibly pulsed. “I think one of my security guards is the one stealing the money. If this carries on then I will lose everything.”

Terry felt sorry for him, but the new security measures he had put into place should ensure that it never happened again. “Anthony, I have set a small trap to see if we can catch whoever it is. There are hidden cameras everywhere; no one can see them. We will know by tomorrow who the thief is.” Terry stood and walked towards him, placing his arm over the man’s shoulders. “I pride myself in my work. My reputation is built on being the best.”

“I apologise. I shall leave it to you.” With a slight nod of his head, Anthony left him alone. Terry had an idea it was the head of security who was behind the thefts.
